Description
The Federal State Budgetary Cultural Institution "National Drama Theatre of Russia (Alexandrinsky Theatre)" is the oldest national theatre in Russia, founded in 1756 by decree of Empress Elizabeth. The theatre building, designed by the architect Carlo Rossi and located in the center of Saint Petersburg, is a world architectural monument and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Alexandrinsky Theatre occupies a special place in the history of Russian theatre, having hosted the premieres of many classic works of Russian drama. Outstanding actors and directors, whose names have been included in the world theatre encyclopedia, have performed on its stage.
Since 2024, Nikita Kobelev has been appointed artistic director of the theatre. The theatre includes the Pskov Academic Drama Theatre named after A.S. Pushkin, which underscores the significance of the Alexandrinsky Theatre as a center of national dramatic art.
